Description

In her fourth poetry collection, published by Salmon in 2014, Nessa O’Mahony explores two father-daughter relationships: her mother’s and her own. The book includes a moving sequence charting the illness and death of her father, Donal, and also examines her grandfather’s life during the historic and turbulent years of the early 20th century in Ireland. In a review, Simon Holloway called it a “fine, fine collection” which was “filled with the grace of motion towards, and movement beyond” whilst poet John O’Donnell said that ” O’Mahony’s forthright, heartfelt style is affecting, and further exploration of her family hinterland will no doubt yield up other secrets.”
